Evelyn Brandt-Roe, 95
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 5 months AGO
Evelyn June (Volin) Brandt-Roe completed her earthly journey on Oct. 19, 2012, in Spokane. June was born on May 9, 1917, to Edward J. and Ella (Harrison) Volin, in Volin, S.D. The family moved to Hayden Lake in 1926 and June graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School. She married Ray Cameron Brandt in 1936. Two sons were born to this union, Rodney and William. The family lived in Page for many years.
Over the years, June went back to school and was able to earn her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught at several one room schools in Montana and Oregon. After he was medically retired, Ray accompanied her in her career moves until his death in 1975. She married John Roe in 1988. He also preceded her in death in 2000.
After her retirement, she volunteered at the Clothes Basket in Kellogg, tutored primary children in reading, played the accordion for the Lutheran Ladies group at Shoshone Living center and played for senior citizens’ dances. She was very generous with her time and talents. She had been a very active member of Ester Rebekahs and was a long time member of the Silver Valley Life Quest Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son Bill, sister Edna, half brother Donald, and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son Rodney (Sherry) Brandt, Pinehurst, grandchildren Kelly (Jennifer) Brandt and their children Faith and Noah and Kori (Jason) Laney and their daughters Cameron and Chloe, all of Rock Springs, Wyo.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Idaho, Washington, California and Missouri. The family wishes to thank Teddi Millsap Sylvester, June’s caretaker for the last four years: No one could have done it better.
Thank you to Horizon’s Hospice of Spokane for their tender ministrations during June’s last hours. Also, thanks to June’s niece, Sherril Voves for her nine year devoted attention to June’s needs.
