Chiefs romp at Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia - Mitch Holmberg had a goal and two assists and Brenden Kitchton added three assists for the Spokane Chiefs, who scored five goals in the third period to defeat the Prince George Cougars 6-1 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday night in front of 1,382 at the CN Centre.

Prince George took a 1-0 lead after one period and Todd Fiddler tied the game at 1 with 1:09 remaining in the second period for Spokane, which won its third straight game.

Holmberg scored his team-leading 11th goal 4:44 into the third for Spokane. Collin Valcourt scored less than a minute later on the power play for a 3-1 lead.

Tyler King scored in his second straight game on an assist from rookies Jackson Playfair and Adam Helewka to give Spokane a 4-1 lead.

Dylan Walchuk, who scored the game-winner for Spokane against Prince George on Saturday at the Spokane Arena, scored his second goal in as many games to give the Chiefs a 5-1 lead.

Fiddler capped the scoring with a shorthanded goal with 2:22 remaining for Spokane (9-3-0-0, 18 points), which moves into second place in the U.S. Division.

Spokane is at Prince George again tonight at 7.
