Awards earned by members of Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution in Montana were announced at state and national sessions.
Carol Nicholson, Bird Woman Falls DAR Chapter, Columbia Falls, was awarded the S.A.R. Medal of Appreciation for helping to obtain new members in Montana and her efforts in helping with the research and application process of the new members in the State of Montana. This was given to her during annual meeting of Montana Society of SAR held in Butte, Aug. 18.
Billy Butts and Lon Brown, Columbia Falls, received Liberty Medal Awards. They were recognized for recruiting 10 new members over a period of time. These were announced during 122nd Congress in Phoenix, July 7 to 11.
Montana and New Mexico societies tied with 71 percent to place second for the DAR to SAR Membership Award. Winner for cash award was Missouri with 80 percent. Highest percentage of recruiting SAR members determines winners.
Texas Award to the state society with highest percentage of increase in membership among states with fewer than 100 members went to Montana Society of SAR with 51 percent.
The Matthew Sellers III award was presented to John T. Bancroft for the vice president general making the best percentage over quota based on last year’s membership in the Intermountain District. This is comprised of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah.
Members of Bird Woman Falls Chapter continue to be active with local projects.
Project at Montana Veterans’ Home Cemetery revealed that a headstone for Margaret Martin, who died in April, 1919, had never been placed. As a result of their efforts, a headstone was ordered and received. A ceremony honored the widow and placing of the headstone with members of DAR, SAR and CAR participating.
Officers of Bird Woman’s Falls DAR are Tracy Morsching, Margie Holland, Sandy Stoutenburg and Carlen French. Billy Butts, Don Brown and Fred McCracken are SAR members.
Bird Woman Falls DAR meetings are second Saturdays, alternating between Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

Villages sprang up for dam builders

Custer's last stand visited
It's been so long since we visited Custer's Battlefield that it has a new name and new features. Family outing was to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument and Custer National Cemetery the last day of our reunion.
