COEUR d'ALENE - An 18-year-old Coeur d'Alene man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 95, eight miles south of Coeur d'Alene.

James F. Winzer was eastbound on Carnie Road when he pulled onto U.S. 95 and was struck by a southbound tractor-trailer rig traveling in the left lane of the highway, the Idaho State Police said.

The accident occurred at 7:24 a.m., and Winzer died at the scene, police said. Winzer was a current student at Lake City High School, a spokeswoman for the Coeur d'Alene School District confirmed.

Winzer was driving a 2003 Chevy pickup truck, and was on his way to school when the accident occurred, police said.

Ronnie V. Ament, 65, of Athol, was driving a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer and was not injured, police said.

Both Winzer and Ament were wearing seat belts, police said.

The vehicles were towed from the scene.

Capt. Curtis Kastens for ISP said the investigation is ongoing, and declined to discuss road or visibility conditions at the time of the accident.
