Wave of vandalism continues

POLSON — Over the past month, Polson residents have fallen victim to a costly wave of vandalism, as more than 25 windows have been broken out of vehicles, homes and businesses during night time raids, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage.
According to a press release issued by the Polson Police Department, “it appears that the damage to the windows is being caused by either a BB gun or pellet gun.”
“We have some possible leads, but we have nothing confirmed at this time,” Chief of Police Wade Nash said of the ongoing investigation.
Nash reported that at this stage, closing the case could hinge on help from alert citizens in the community.
“Ultimately, it’s going to take help from the community,” Nash said. “We’re trying to get the word out so that the public will call stuff in.”
The offenses most commonly occur on weekend nights, leading police to believe that the crimes are “juvenile related.” Despite the suspected youth of the culprit(s), those responsible are likely facing felony charges as the damage far exceeds the $1,500 threshold.
“It’s sad, really, because I don’t think people realize how it affects the victims,” Nash said of the “pointless” and “cowardly” crimes. “You’re seeing elderly people that are getting their windows broken out at a bad time of the year.”
If anyone in the community witnesses suspicious vehicles or activity, they are urged to call 406-883-8212 or Crime Stoppers at 406-883-7309.
