A new report by State Farm Insurance shows drivers in Montana have a 1 in 78 chance of colliding with a deer — the sixth highest rate in the nation.

Neighboring states don’t compare. In Idaho that rate is 1 in 232, and in Wyoming it’s 1 in 113.

West Virginia drivers have the highest likelihood of colliding with a deer at 1 in 40. Hawaii is the lowest with a 1 and 6,801 chance.

According to State Farm, November is the month when deer collisions are most likely to occur. The average property damage cost of these incidents is $3,305. Up 4.4 percent from last year.

State Farm estimates more than a million crashes last year were the result of deer in the road.
