Mr. Mark Peterson led the 2012 FWIN Study on Potholes Reservoir. Lead biologist Mr. Peterson cannot give us a complete understanding of The FWIN until all data is collected, but he indicated that our Walleye look good and we have a new and improved perch population. He also indicated that under an idle environment Perch may spawn twice a year.
Some people that hear about the sampling of these fish unfortunately do get upset, but the fish taken in the study represent less than 1% of each species population. The health of the lake can only be scientifically understood by this study.

Hunt 25,000 private acres of farmland in Royal City, Washington
Open to a limited number of hunters each year, the Royal Hunt Club is a fundraiser by the Royal Slope Youth Boosters, a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to raise money for after-school activites for kids in the Royal City area.
Within 25,000 acres of privately owned farmland, hunters will find a variety of crops grown including corn, wheat and others in which to roam and likely never see another hunter on the same ground.
In addition to native wildlife including pheasant, duck and goose, the Royal Hunt Club raises generously sized pheasants and releases them throughout hunting season.

Fishing update for the Potholes Reservoir Area
- Many fishers have been enjoying the best Perch Fishing in a very long time. Perch are being caught in water 16 feet deep and deeper in the Lind Coulee and near Goose Island. Reports of most Perch being caught are 8 inches or longer, which is a great sized fish for a fish fry.
- Bass Fishers are continuing to have good smallmouth action on the face of O'Sullivan Dam. The Crab Creek area is producing some largemouth bass action as well.
- Walleye Anglers using Rapala Shad-Raps are having some luck with the surface water temp hovering around 58 degrees.
- The MarDon Fishing Dock has been great for Crappie, Perch, Bluegill and some Trout. If you are staying in the resort dock fishing is complimentary or you can stop in the store and purchase a day pass for $4.00 for kids and seniors or $7.00 for adults.

Fresh News from MarDon
The fishing in the Potholes Recreation Area this October has been just as good as we thought it would be. We experienced some rapidly cooling weather which rapidly cooled the water temperatures and really turns on the fall bite. The walleye fishers are producing limits almost daily.
Fresh News from MarDon
As Potholes Reservoir cools with incoming fall weather the fishing for all species will only get better. The bass guys are having a ball with largemouth bass at the face of the dunes. Smallmouth bass are most catchable at the rock piles in the main lake between Goose Island and O'Sullivan Dam. Potholes are now at the low water status typical for this time of year. Cover is harder for fish to locate for sanctuary. (Now is when the underwater habitat restoration project is the most valuable, cwfac.org).

It's hard to believe but the already great fishing on Potholes Reservoir will just be getting better. The perch fishing at the State Park and off the MarDon Dock has been great.
