EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man was sentenced to two days in jail after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and assaulting her.

Uriel Campos, 36, entered an Alford plea to fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief, according to court records. The plea means Campos doesn't admit to committing the crime, but felt he would be convicted at trial.

Prosecutors initially charged Campos with first-degree burglary. The charge was lessened as part of the plea agreement.

Visiting Douglas County Superior Court Judge John Hotchkiss followed the prosecutor's recommendation, sentencing Campos to 364 days in jail with 362 days suspended for two years.

The victim ended her relationship with Campos about a month prior to the incident. She was lying in bed, when she heard something outside her window, according to a Moses Lake police report. When she looked out her window, she didn't see anything, but heard someone try a sliding glass door at the Garden Drive residence.

Campos reportedly entered the residence through the garage and went to the victim's bedroom, yelling, saying he knew she was inside and to let him in, according to the police report. When the victim didn't let him inside, Campos allegedly kicked down the door, entering the room. He reportedly grabbed the victim by the arms, throwing her onto the bed.

He allegedly jumped on top of the victim, holding her down by her throat, according to court records. When she became light-headed, he reportedly let go of her throat, covering her mouth and nose with his hand.

After a struggle, Campos reportedly left the room, taking the victim's cellphone and car keys. He allegedly attempted to pull the battery out of the victim's vehicle, damaging a fuse, according to the police report.

Campos allegedly told police he had caught the victim with another man, and believed he was still dating the woman, according to the police report. He reportedly denied attacking the victim.
