ANNIVERSARIES
Garland and Nettie Bews
72nd Anniversary
Garland "Ike, " 96, and Nettie, 94, Bews are a very special couple. They still have a teenage giggle when talking about their 72 years together, how much things have changed and coming from families of eight and 10 kids.
Their anniversary date is Nov. 1, 2012. They were married in Boise in 1940 and lived in Mountain City, Nev., then Gold Mine, Calif., where Ike worked in copper and gold mines. In Morton, Wash., and Quincy, Wash., he did logging, farmed and worked in a lumber yard. After coming to Coeur d'Alene, then Post Falls, he was employed in retail at Atlas Building Center until retiring at age 65.
Daughter Deeana Harris is in Issaquah, Wash., and granddaughter Laurie Brodie resides in Aurora, Colo. Great-grandson Maxsim brings lots of joy to their lives.
At a special horseshoe pitching tournament held Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, for Ike's 96th birthday, he and his partner won first place. These two are such an inspiration. Neighbors can't keep up with their fine care of home, yard and winter snow removal.
Asking advice for younger couples, they said "Keep busy. Communicate, communicate! Get over it and go on to the next day." Celebrate! Celebrate, Ike and Nettie. You are loved.
