Velma Hanan, 81, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother of Cataldo, passed away Oct. 26, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene.
Velma was born Dec. 18, 1930, in Ira, Iowa, to Neva and Otis Warner and is survived by her two sisters, Jean State of Ira, Iowa, and Janet Clement of Colfax, Iowa; her brother, Keith Warner of Cedartown, Ga.; her children, Leslie and Gene Hanan of Cataldo, John (Kathy) Maher of Tualatin, Ore., Debbie (Jim) Angle of Mullan, Kathy Hanan of Springfield, Mo., and Andy (Kathy) Hanan of Cataldo.
Velma has 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ken Warner and two husbands, John Maher and Chuck Hanan.
Velma attended, and graduated from Mingo High School in Mingo, Iowa, in 1949. She married John Maher in July 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyo. They were married 18 years until John passed away in September 1969 in Colfax, Iowa. In August 1973 Velma married Chuck Hanan of Cataldo and made her home there.
Velma enjoyed reading and traveling but her greatest joy and source of pride was raising her family and ensuring they were taken care of which she did in the most wonderful and caring way.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Oct. 31, 2012, and Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene.
