Aviani lifts Chiefs

SPOKANE - Mike Aviani had two goals and two assists and Todd Fiddler scored twice as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-2 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday night in front of 3,524 at the Spokane Arena.

Aviani opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Spokane, which improved to 7-0 at home. Tyler King scored his third goal of the season less than two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.

Fiddler scored his first goal on a breakaway at the 16:20 mark of the first and Carter Proft scored 16 seconds later.

Liam Stewart scored with 54 seconds remaining in the period to give Spokane a 5-0 lead after the first.

Fiddler scored again 57 seconds into the second period. The goal was his fifth in the past three games.

Spokane (11-5-0-0, 22 points) hosts Red Deer on Friday night at 7, and now leads the U.S. Division by two points over second-place Tri-City.
