Bigfork Community Players will present the first of several theater training workshops on Nov. 10.

The workshops, which are open to all, offer opportunities for amateur actors to develop their skills under the supervision of professional theater performers. November’s session is a character development workshop called “Becoming Quite a Character.”

“It doesn’t matter if you’re doing a comedy or drama; the goal in every show is to find the way into the character you’ve been invited to play (or if you are a director, to help guide others to that space),” instructor Monique Kleinhans said. “In this workshop, we explore a series of exercises that create shortcuts to your character, and establish a rich history of experience, gesture and physicality in your character’s world. This session is great for performers, directors and teachers.”

With more than 18 years in professional theater, Kleinhans has directed, performed and taught around the globe and is a core member of the Seattle-based touring company Theater Simple.

Kleinhans is skilled in developing new works and leading ensemble-building writing and performance workshops. She also specializes in collaborative work and creating site-specific performance pieces for all ages.

The workshop takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bigfork Senior Center, 639 Commerce St., Bigfork. Drop-ins are welcome if space allows. Participants should dress for movement.

The cost is $30 for general admission, $25 for students (including Flathead Valley Community College students) and $20 for Bigfork Community Players members.

To reserve a space, email bigforkcommunityplayers@gmail.com.

Checks may be mailed to Bigfork Community Players, P.O. Box 23, Bigfork, MT 59911.
