Sometimes you just run into a better team. That was the case this weekend as the Wildkat soccer team was buzzed 6-0 by Billings Central in the state Class A soccer championship Oct. 27.

The Lady Rams scored early and often, racking up four goals in the first 23 minutes. Allie Lucas had a hat trick, while the Lady Rams out shot the Kats 15-3.

“They were just a good team,” coach Greg Trenerry said. “You have to give them credit. We had some lapses on defense. They out played us in just about every aspect.”

Billings Central had excellent spacing and played exemplary two-touch ball, despite sloppy field conditions and on again, off again rain and snow showers.

Just getting the field ready for play proved a challenge. Athletic director Troy Bowman and a host of volunteers went to work in the early morning hours clearing four inches of fresh snow off the field.

Trenerry said he was appreciative of their efforts and for the large crowd that turned out to cheer for the Kats.

“It was an accomplishment just getting to the finals,” he said. “They worked hard.”

The Kats lose five seniors but should return with a good core of skilled players next year. They finished with a 12-2-1 record overall. Their only losses this year were to the Lady Rams.
