COEUR d'ALENE - Peninsula College of Port Angeles, Wash., featuring 14 international players, defeated North Idaho College 3-1 in the final game of the Cardinal Classic on Sunday at Bill Eisenwinter Field.

After Logan Tooley of NIC (1-3-0) tied it at 1 on a penalty kick in the 70th minute Alex Martinez of Peninsula scored twice in the final 10 minutes.

"We knocked the ball around really well," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "Each game we get a little better."

Thompson is encouraged by the recent addition to the team of Hector Martinez, who scored more than 20 goals last season at Caldwell High. Martinez played 12 minutes in his NIC debut on Friday, and in his 15-minute stint Sunday, nearly set up the go-ahead goal with a cross to the far post that the Cards couldn't put away.

NIC's men and women travel to Powell, Wyo., this weekend to play Northwest College on Friday and Salt Lake Community College's club team on Saturday.
