DESERT AIRE - Kimmy's Kloset, the newest addition to the Desert Aire shopping center , may take a while to develop, for it's open only on weekends.

But that's okay for proprietor Kim Knight. She's in no hurry. She still has several years to go on her career with the U.S. Postal Service in Lynnwood.

"We (Kim and her husband Blaine) want to have something to do here when we retire," she said.

For those of you who wonder why Knight doesn't just choose a hobby, buying and selling are her hobby. She does yard sales, thrift stores and eBay.

"I don't watch TV," she said. "I don't even know what's on TV. I love to buy and sell. That's what I do."

Blaine may not be as hard-core as Kim, but he understands her. He too is a salesman, marketing doors to big buildings, including high rises.

"He's like a car salesman. He was born with that," Kim said.

The Knights bought a place in Desert Aire seven years ago, planning ahead for their retirement. The reason Kim started her clothing store on a part-time basis was to tie up sales space, which she says is hard to come by at Desert Aire.

Knight works the night shift at the post office processing mail. A machine does the processing. She only has to feed it.

But that schedule means she can't be here during the week. So she opens from 10-5 on Saturday and 10-12 on Sunday.

"I have to be back in Lynnwood in time to start my shift at 10 o'clock on Sunday nights," she said.

Kim's Kloset specializes in used clothing and shoes that are in good to excellent condition. She has her sources for finding quality goods. None of the items is what you'd call worn out.

"We specialize in name brand fashions for less," she said.

A high price for anything at Kim's Kloset would be $15, Knight said. An average price would be $5.

"It's been good so far," Knight said. "The weekend of Hot Desert Nights was really good. There were a lot of people here."

Kim's Kloset has more than clothing. There are housewares, jewelry, books, DVDs, toys and more. New inventory is added each week, Knight said.
