Howard E. Davies, 83

Howard E. Davies passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012. Born June 28, 1929, in Woodbury, N.J. Howard was the youngest of five children of David F. Davies and Ivy B. Lewis.

He graduated from Woodbury High School in 1947 and enlisted in the Navy in 1948. He served four years; mostly in the Caribbean Sea aboard the seaplane tender USS Timbalier AVP54. He was rated an Electricians Mate 2nd class (E5) in April 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Korean War veteran.

He graduated technical school in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1953, and worked in the electrical and aerospace industries as an engineering technician until retirement in 1989. He then worked as a project manager for a window manufacturer in Renton, Wash.

He married the love of his life, Florine M. Hauge on Feb, 14, 1958, in Roanoke, Va. They moved to Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1960, where they raised five sons. Upon retirement, they moved to Coeur d’Alene. She preceded him in death in 2006.

He was a member of Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts; and supported the Cub Scouts as Chairman for several years starting in 1966. He was very active in Little League Baseball with his boys, managing a team from 1967-1975, including the successful All-Star team in 1971, winning two championships. He was a member of the Sons of Norway from 2000-2010.

His hobbies and interests included camping, baseball, hockey, golf, genealogy, coin collecting and gardening.

He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Reim and Olwyn Jones (Norm); and four sons, Robert Davies (Sonja) of Coeur d’Alene, Morris Davies (Heather) of Indio, Calif., Raymond Davies (Sandra) of Payson, Utah, and James Davies (Sharon) of Kingman, Ariz. His son, Stephen Davies, preceded him in death in 2005. He is also survived by seven nephews, three nieces, 22 (great) grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
