A local nonprofit theater group will hold auditions for two upcoming productions in September.

Whitefish Theatre Co. will hold auditions for its holiday musical “Seussical the Musical” at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 and 17 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

“Seussical,” written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and based on at least 14 Dr. Seuss books, is filled with music and tales that are as lively and endearing as the books by this classic storyteller. Visually, “Seussical” is candy for kids coupled with smart lyrics and a brilliant script that engages even the most resistant of adults.

Scripts are available for perusal at local libraries.

Performances dates are Nov. 29 and 30, and Dec. 1-2, 7-9, and 14-16.

Nick and Rebecca Spear, known locally for their work with Alpine Theatre Project, will co-direct the show. They are both members of Actors Equity Association and hold Master of Fine Arts degrees in musical theater. Karla West is the musical director.

The cast will be made of approximately 10 women and 10 men ages 15 and up, and seven to 10 children ages 7 to 14. Pages of the script and music will be provided. Participants should not prepare their own songs.

Arrive early to fill out an audition application and become acquainted with the material.

Kids chosen for “Seussical” will attend two rehearsals a week starting in October with the show’s co-directors. These musical theater sessions will be the kids’ rehearsals for the production until the technical rehearsals for the show begin.

Participation fee is $75. Scholarship applications are available for children needing assistance; contact jesse@whitefishtheatreco.org.

Auditions for Whitefish Theatre Co. first Staged Reading of the 2012-13 season will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 30  in the O’Shaughnessy Center Green Room. “Lombardi,” adapted for the stage by Eric Simonson, is based on the book “When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi.”

Production dates for “Lombardi” are Oct. 27 and 28, with a possible third performance pending.

The play has a cast of five men and one woman. Actor should arrive early to auditions in order to fill out an audition form and acquaint themselves with the material.

A freelance director position is also open for “Lombardi.”

Whitefish Theatre’s Artistic Director Jesse DeVine says, “This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase one’s directing abilities and/or gain directing experience while working with our community’s talented actors,” said Jesse DeVine, Whitefish Theatre Co.’s artistic director.

If interested, contact DeVine at jesse@whitefishtheatreco.org for an application. Applications are due Sept. 14.
