AA volleyball roundup: Flathead stops West in three sets

GREAT FALLS — The Flathead volleyball team was able to shake off the dust of a two-week layoff to beat Billings West on Thursday night in three sets, 25-22, 30-28, 25-23.
The Bravettes didn’t play as crisp as they would have liked, leading to an inconsistent showing.
“We were kind of flat all night,” Flathead coach Leon Wilcox said. “We never really got quite in a rhythm. We got the job done. The effort was good. I thought the girls played hard, they just weren’t really clicking.”
The Bravettes played well enough to win the close match, but had a slew of unforced errors and let off the gas a few times.
“We just weren’t sharp, which isn’t characteristic of this group,” Wilcox said. “We were off. Maybe that comes from having sat the last two weeks. It was a little shaky, but I’m pretty certain they’re going to turn it around tomorrow.”
Flathead teamed up for 43 kills and nine blocks to beat the Bears, with senior Kwyn Johnson leading with 15 kills and five blocks. Nouf Rashoodi and Iris Matulevich each had a team-high nine digs for the Bravettes.
The Bravettes play in the Great Falls Invitational today, getting a chance to play the top teams in Class AA.
Kills — Flathead 43 (Kwyn Johnson 15), West 24 (KC Christensen 8). Assists — Flathead 37 (Emily Russell 35), West 21 (Christine Wing 13). Blocks — Flathead 9 (Johnson, Sarah Risenhoover 5), West 2.
