Command Center Inc., a Post Falls-based national provider of temporary labor, said Thursday it is providing approximately 800 workers daily to assist with Hurricane Isaac relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi.

The company said the workers are undertaking projects at 20 locations in the two states, and many are tackling shifts of up to 12 hours. The number of workers is expected to increase in the coming days as flood waters in certain areas begin to recede.

"It is a constantly fluctuating number (of workers)," said Ron Junck, executive vice president and general counsel for Command Center.

He said most of the work is being done in the New Orleans metropolitan area.

The workers are doing cleanup and debris removal at hotels, schools and hospitals, Junck said.

The workers are residents of the effected areas, "whether they were looking for a job at the time or temporarily out of work because of the hurricane," Junck said.

For competitive reasons Junck declined to say what the workers are being paid, but said, "They are a long ways from minimum wage."

Glenn Welstad, Command Center's chairman and CEO, said, "This is the single largest relief deployment by our company since we assisted with cleanup activities following the Gulf oil spill two years ago."

For Hurricane Isaac, Welstad said, the company brought managers to the Gulf area to recruit and mobilize the disaster recovery effort.

Junck said the company regularly has been providing workers for natural disasters.

"We've developed a high level of expertise for working in these types of things," Junck said.
