A 41-year-old Hayden resident, and former agent with Jesberger Insurance agency, was sentenced Friday for insurance fraud, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said.

Christina "Chrissy" M. Johnson was given up to four years in prison, but the sentence was suspended by 1st District Court Judge Benjamin Simpson.

She was ordered to serve 30 days in the county jail, and was placed on probation for three years and ordered to pay her court costs.

Johnson pleaded guilty on May 24, 2012, to one count of insurance fraud.

By pleading guilty, Johnson admitted that on Oct. 24, 2008, she lowered the deductible on her sister and brother-in-law's 1994 Dodge 3500 truck and lowered the value of the truck while working at the North Idaho insurance agency.

The original deductible on the truck was $2,500 and Johnson reduced it to $250.

She also lowered the value of the truck from $33,000 to $10,000.

Three days later, Johnson contacted Progressive Insurance claims department to report an accident involving the truck, which happened the same day she lowered the deductible and the truck's value.

Investigators determined that after Johnson was notified of the accident, she changed the deductible to help her family.

The case was referred to the Attorney General's insurance crimes unit by progressive insurance and the Idaho Department of Insurance.
