Area Agency on Aging starts Friendship Corps

COEUR d'ALENE - The Area Agency on Aging, in conjunction with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, has started a new program to serve local homebound seniors, called the Friendship Corps.

RSVP is currently recruiting volunteers for the Friendship Corps.

Volunteers will receive 12-16 hours of training on Medicare/Medicaid, emergency preparedness, senior fraud/scams and neglect, nutrition, navigating the health-care system and community resource programs.

Visitation, which will be twice a month, will be developed as a social time incorporating elements of the training. Training starts Oct. 17.

Volunteers 55 and older are sought.
