Bigfork High School’s football team stomped the Powell County Wardens on Friday, 32-6. For the second game in a row, the Vikings prevented their opponent from scoring any points until the game was nearly over. The Wardens didn’t score their only touchdown until 5:09 into the third quarter.

“I guess I would have to say Deer Lodge was a tough opponent and their lines were big and strong, but our lines held up pretty well,” Coach Todd Emslie said. “Defensively, we had another first-half shut out. The kids work hard and they’ve been tackling really well.”

In the first quarter with 6:49 on the clock, Colter Trent made a pass to Austin Jordt for the first touchdown of the game. Then Jordt turned around just four minutes later and scored a 31-yard rushing touchdown with 2:18 on the clock.

In the second quarter, Trent made a pass to Stephen Jochen for an 86-yard touchdown reception with 3:11 on the clock. Then just before the end of the first half, Trent made another pass to Josh Sandry for a 38-yard touchdown reception with just 59 seconds left on the clock.

The Wardens snuck in their only touchdown during the third quarter when Tristen Clark made a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

The Vikings ended the game on their terms with a final touchdown scored by Boyd Rieke with a 12-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter with 2:26 on the clock.

Jordt set the standard for tackling on Friday with 12 completed tackles. But, he wasn’t the only Viking sacking Wardens on the field; Sandry and Matt Edwards each raked in eight tackles.

Rieke took those openings to his advantage and rushed 188 yards throughout the game.

“Both sides of the ball played well, offense and defense,” Emslie said. “Colter Trent played well too, he threw three touchdown passes.”

Trent had 11 completed passes with a total of 244 yards gained.

“Deer Lodge played tough, but I think our athleticism and speed really showed itself,” BHS principal Matt Porovecchio said.

Emslie said the team will focus on ball security, hustling on special teams, and improving their blocking in practice this week in preparation for Friday’s home game against Conrad at 7 p.m.
