Last weeknd the Vikings soccer team clicked again to add their game against Livingston to the winning side of their season. They also took a narrow loss to Belgrade, leaving Bigfork 5-1 as they head into their match-up against Whitefish on Thursday.

The Vikes took 12 shots on goal to Belgrade’s four in last Friday’s game, but somehow Belgrade managed to slip one by early in the second half.

Bigfork head coach Keith Koslosky said the Vikes did a great job of defending and creating opportunities, they just had a hard time finishing in the back of the net.

“Bryce (MacCallum) had some brilliant crosses that nobody was on the other end of,” Koslosky said. “Austin Gordon created a lot of opportunities.”

Unfortunately a goal just wasn’t in the cards for Bigfork, Saturday’s game, however, was a different story.

Bigfork went down 1-0 at half and came back to beat Livingston 2-1. Hard work from Isaac Passwater created an own goal from Livingston in the 49th minute, bringing the game to a tie.

“And from there, we just took over the game,” Koslosky said.

Matt Killian put in a goal during the 75th minute to give Bigfork the lead.

From being a goal down and coming off a loss, to being on the road and tired, Koslosky said the Vikes overcame a lot to win that game. Koslosky attributes some of that to the stellar support Bigfork got from friends and family.

“Thank you to parents and siblings. I believe we outnumbered the Livingston fans in the stands and that’s a big yahoo! for Bigfork,” Koslosky said.

As for his team, Koslosky said they’re starting to click even more as the season progresses. And part of that is coming from his wings, MacCallum and Jorge Zavala.

He also said Tyler Zavala has been one of his most consistent players all season. The Zavala cousins together have made a big impact on the Vikes team this year coming up the left side.

“Him (Tyler) and Jorge are tremendous individually, together they’re crazy,” Koslosky said.

Koslosky said the weekend of back-to-back games on the road was a real growing experience for his team and he was glad to see the result at the end of the weekend.

Coming up this week for the Vikes is another road game against Whitefish on Thursday, followed by next Tuesday’s 6 p.m. home game against Columbia Falls.
