Downtown Coeur d'Alene growing
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 12 years, 7 months AGO
With hopes to extend the business core of downtown to Seventh Street, a retail building called Plaza on Sherman is planned for the vacant southeast corner of Seventh and Sherman.
The corner had Senor Froggy's eatery a few years back and plans for a six-story structure there were changed to the new plan. With hopes for construction to begin this fall and complete next spring, the 5,500-square-foot, single-story building would house three or four tenants and have parking to the rear. The only committed tenant is Subway, and about 4,000 square feet remain available. Erik Nelson of Kiemle & Hagood Realty (509-220-4042, erik.nelson@khco.com) is handling the project.
The project developer is VIQ Development of Boise. It's the company's first project in North Idaho, although it has developed many commercial properties in the Northwest and California.

Hang on for several Tidbits
- The Post Falls Doughnut House is now Doughnut Dugout to reflect owner Dennis Gross' love of baseball. Offering eat-in and take-out doughnuts, other pastries, coffee and soon espresso, the store is always open in Harbor Ridge Center across Seltice Way from the Trading Co. store.
- Not being a country boy, when writing about Big R's new outdoor fencing lot last week I wrote "squeeze shoot" instead of "squeeze chute." Oops. Several readers let me know. Maybe I got that from "They shoot horses, don't they?"
- Idaho's "Famous Potatoes" on the license plates still fits. The state produces 21.2 percent of the U.S. market followed by Washington at 19.1 and California at 9.1.
- Places closing include: Double Discount Grocery at 402 E. Seltice, closing when the inventory is sold. One more Thing! in downtown Coeur d'Alene closed Saturday as owner Kay Schilling retired. Sweet B's Cupcakes behind Scratch restaurant closed in downtown Cd'A.
- People not removing their yard/garage/estate sale signs ought to be fine for littering.
- In times, write "noon" and "midnight." Readers confuse 12 p.m. and 12 a.m.
- When chemists die, they barium.
