Glen and Betsy Rothrock
40th Anniversary
Glen and Betsy Rothrock celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2, 2012. Their children, Scott Rothrock and Courtney Rothrock Tucker surprised and honored their parents with Scott flying in from Albuquerque, N.M., to help Courtney host a wonderful surprise party attended by many special longtime friends of Glen and Betsy's. The celebration continued with another loving gift from their children of a night in the Davenport Hotel! Thanks, kids, for making our 40th so special. We love you too!
Glen and Betsy first met as acquaintances in 1965 at a church high school camp retreat in the Santa Cruz, Calif., mountains. Betsy was in eighth grade and Glen was graduating from Turlock High School. Glen joined the Army and spent the next three years in Germany.
Betsy went back to Peru, South America, where her parents were missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
In 1968, Glen returned from his service in the Army. Betsy came back from South America with her family and finished high school in 1969 at Watsonville High in California. It was during that year that Glen and Betsy, unknowingly, were invited to a mutual friend's wedding and there they met again. They spent hours getting reacquainted and catching up on each other's lives over the past three years of being in foreign countries.
They enjoyed each other's company so much that they dated during their college years, Glen at Sacramento State College and Betsy at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif. Glen graduated in 1972 with a B.S. degree in fisheries biology.
In 1972 Glen and Betsy were married in a beautiful garden wedding in the mountains of Aptos. They lived in this beautiful beach community near Santa Cruz for the first two years of their marriage. Glen worked for the California Department of Fish and Game in Monterey as an intern in fisheries biology. In 1974 they moved to Sacramento for a career position for Glen with the State Department of Water Resources. Betsy continued her studies at Sacramento State College and later graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in human development. Glen also obtained his master's degree at UC Davis in aquatic ecology. Glen and Betsy resided in Sacramento for 17 years where they enjoyed their lives as very busy parents and active members of their community.
In 1991, Glen received a wonderful career and life change with a position as a Water Quality Specialist for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality in Coeur d'Alene where he is still currently working. Betsy took a position with North Idaho College Head Start where she taught for 15 years. For the past six years she has been blessed with the joy of teaching kindergarten at Noah's Ark Learning Center. They will soon be enjoying their retirement years as Glen looks forward to retiring this coming March. They have been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren with whom they plan to have lots of special play time!
