NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals get offensive in soccer

COEUR d'ALENE - Logan Tooley scored twice as the North Idaho College Cardinals won their second straight game, with Justin Johnson earning the shutout in goal in a 3-0 victory over the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday at Bill Eisenwinter Field.
Ruben Amezcua drilled a free kick just inside the far post from 45 yards out to open the scoring for NIC (3-4-1).
Tooley headed in his first goal in the 38th minute, on a cross from Ryan Krempels on a play set up by a steal by Hector Martinez.
"We weathered a bit of a storm after we went up in the first half, and Justin kept us in it," NIC coach Ken Thompson said.
NIC's five goals scored in its last two games matched its offensive output from its first six games.
"We were much better in front of the goal than we have been," Thompson said.
NIC plays Peninsula College on Saturday in Port Angeles, Wash.

MOSCOW - Anna Valentine scored two goals in the first 25 minutes as the Cardinals defeated the Idaho club team.
NIC has scored 23 goals in its last two games.
"It was good to have Anna Valentine back in the lineup," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "Even with a little bit of rust she brought us confidence and composure in our attack."
Emily Cordon added two goals and an assist for NIC (5-3-0), which plays at Everett (Wash.) Community College on Saturday.

NIC goes 4-0 at own tourney
COEUR d'ALENE - HayleeMae Dennis and Yang Yang had 11 kills each as the Cardinals defeated Central Arizona 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 to complete a 4-0 run at the Best Western Coeur d'Alene Invitational at Christianson Gym.
Yang also had 11 digs, Brooklynn Bradbury 18 assists, Kaitlyn Molloy five blocks for NIC (12-0).
Earlier, NIC defeated the Great Falls junior varsity 25-18, 25-8, 25-15. Alli Meehan had 17 assists for the Cardinals, Marissa Verducci had eight kills, Leeta Grap 11 digs, Bradbury three aces, Shelby Lausen and Britney Chilcott three blocks each.
With No. 1 Iowa Central's loss to No. 5 Southern Idaho on Friday, NIC is poised to move atop the rankings when the next NJCAA poll is released Wednesday.
