1. Why are you running for office? The legislature allows me a continuing opportunity to use specialized experience to assist local employers—to help them prosper – and to employ more people—at good wages with benefits.

2. What do you see as the three biggest issues you’ll face? 1. – State revenue continues to be limited reducing the level of business assistance and job creation . In the current economy I oppose those who want to levy new taxes or fees. 2 – Other programs — especially health care – will have high priority and may reduce legislative time available for job creation. 3. Innovative laws to give Idaho “primacy” over water permits and for Idaho to assume management of Federal forest lands may be given secondary importance by other legislators. I plan forceful arguments to pass these laws.

3. If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?

I have already started discussions and ordered draft legislation on these legislative goals. I am working with the Department of Commerce on incentives for business to expand or relocate to Idaho. I am also on the Interim Committee to study Idaho “Primacy” on water and am in a special group of legislators who have been working on taking over management of federal forest lands. On health care I am in a group discussing laws to stimulate competitive bidding on health insurance.

4. What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job? My 35 years of experience in the management of large and small business provides an understanding of company needs and my experience in city, county and state government allows direct access to solutions and appropriate legislation.

5. Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent? This question is best answered by the voters. I hope they make an apples to apples comparison of experience and ability and support the candidate they think is best qualified to deal with the problems immediately before us. I will, of course, respect their decision.
