POST FALLS - The Post Falls Food Bank wants to kick its mortgage so it can meet unprecedented demand for its services.

The nonprofit has launched a wall mural fundraiser called "Burn the Mortgage" in which three levels of tile sponsorship will be offered.

The fundraiser, which seeks $130,000, runs through Oct. 31. A 200-square-foot, farm-themed wall mural with the food bank's logo will be unveiled at Super 1 Foods in Post Falls in November and displayed at the store as a reminder for shoppers to keep the food bank in mind.

"The mural will be beautiful and will naturally draw the attention of everyone in the store," said Ron Lahr, a fundraiser organizer and owner of Custom Tile by X Things.

The food bank has provided food to an average of 4,150 people per month this year.

"We are experiencing a huge increase in requests for food assistance," said Sherry Wallis, food bank executive director. "In order to keep up with the demand we have to purchase more food products. Freeing up our cash flow by eliminating our mortgage payment will assist us in meeting increased demand."

One 12-inch tile costs $500, four tiles in a 2-by-2 square costs $2,500 and major donors of up to $25,000 are also being sought.
