Happenings at the mall

My lead this week is a teaser for things to come - I hope. Earlier this week I saw an ad for Timberline Trading Co. having a sale in Silver Lake Mall in preparation for downsizing the store. So I headed to the mall with a pen, notepad and 1-year-old (tomorrow) grandson Max in a stroller.

It was almost scary. At 1 p.m. Tuesday we were the only humans in the spacious main hall of the place. A few senior citizens sat in the food court area. But Max and I were alone in the huge hall. I poked my head into a few smaller stores that were also empty. I did not go into the "anchor" stores (Sears, Macy's and Penney's). I did go into south anchor Timberline to get contact information to collect news about the move. Except for a clerk, Max and I were the only ones there also. Skin Deep, a "new" store I wrote about a few months ago, was already gone.

What was sad is that I remembered the days when Silver Lake Mall was thriving with people.

However, the future news may be good. We'll have details later on Timberline, which actually is moving into two smaller spaces. And I poked into two stores that had paper on hall windows but lights on inside. One will become an outlet store for Wiggett's Antiques, and another will be for Divine Images, a photo studio. The mall also is revamping its exterior. And the reconstruction of Government Way to the east may help.

Coin Revival in Post Falls

The buying and selling of gold, silver, platinum and collectible coins is the business of Coin Revival. The small store is officially in Suite H in Highlands Crossing Shopping Center with Interstate 90 to the south, Highway 41 to the east and Mullan Avenue to the north. The space was previously a State Farm Insurance office, now across the street.

Owners are Will Rabe, a Navy veteran and longtime Spokane-Coeur d'Alene resident, and Mike Colby, a highly educated long-time coin collector. Their goal is "to treat customers with fairness, honor and respect for their privacy."

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Phone 457-3273. Check www.coinrevival.com.

Heartwood Dental opens Monday

"Making it easy to smile" is the motto at Heartwood Family Dental. Dr. Logan Hazard and his staff open the clinic Monday at 102 W. 11th Ave. (formerly Airo Dental Center, just off Spokane Street) in Post Falls.

Originally from Southern Idaho, Dr. Hazard was educated at Western Case University in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to North Idaho with his family a year ago. As outdoor enthusiasts, their objective was to find a small town nestled in the mountains within 20 minutes of a larger town. They are now following their dream, his wife, Rachel, said.

First visits are free, and all insurances are accepted. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Phone 777-1542. Check www.heartwooddental.com (coming soon).

Hang on for a heap of Tidbits

- Just Roses has expanded at 1203 N. Fourth St., and the Cracked Egg is adding more to its shell on Government Way.

- A rumor is that Trader Joe's is coming to Riverstone. Another rumor is that the old carousel will go there. Anyone know for sure in either case? We'll have more about new Riverstone businesses in the next few weeks.

- A translator deciphers written words; an interpreter deciphers spoken words. All written and spoken words are verbal.

- When a woman looks at a man and yawns, does that mean he's boring? Or she wants to sleep with him?

- A person sent 10 puns to friends with the hope that at least one pun would make them laugh. No one in ten did.
