North Idaho 1

Everett 1

EVERETT, Wash. - Emilee Cordon dribbled up the middle of the field, then passed off to Anna Valentine who tucked the ball inside the left post in the 20th minute for the Cardinals, who played to a tie against the Trojans.

Kassandra Blakely scored on a header in the 85th minute to tie the match for Everett.

Hannah Slinkard, formerly of Post Falls High, had six saves in the first half for NIC (5-3-1), which hosts the Gonzaga club team next Saturday.

"Hannah had a good first half in goal helping organize us defensively and made a great save to come off her line and stop an Everett forward just inside the penalty area before she could get a shot off," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "Overall, it was one of our best-played games yet. We're improving defensively and learning how to play together offensively."

In the second half, NIC lost Cordon to a displaced kneecap and she'll be evaluated Monday.

First half - 1, NIC, Anna Valentine (Emilee Cordon), 20:10. Second half - 2, ECC, Kassandra Blakely (Lisa Echert), 85:45.

Peninsula 2

North Idaho 0

PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Henrique Noujeimi scored on an assist from Erick Urzua in the 41st minute and the Pirates went on to beat the Cardinals.

Peninsula picked up another goal on an own goal by NIC in the 75th minute after a ball went off the back of a Cardinal defender and rolled into the net.

"It was good to play a good team again," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "Their speed-of-play athletes, we hadn't seen a team like this since Powell. They made us chase them more than any other team we played."

Tanner Jones had six saves for NIC (3-5-1), which faces Pierce College today in Puyallup, Wash.

"In the first half, we felt like Tanner kept us in the game," Thompson said. "In the second, we felt like we were knocking at the door, but gave up that own goal and didn't quite have what it took to take advantage of chances late."

First half - 1, Pen, Henrique Noujeimi (Erick Urzua), 41:00. Second half - 2, Pen, own goal, 75:00.

Shots on goal - NIC 8, Pen 17.

Saves - NIC, Tanner Jones, 6; Pen, Angel Guerra, 3.
