I have been wondering how anglers are doing on the summer run salmon on the Wenatchee River, and wouldn't you know it, I ran into Jeff Stroup making his rounds checking anglers near Leavenworth. He had just got one the night before. Seems like last time I asked him about the summer run salmon fishing on the Wenatchee he had caught one the night before, too. He said he isn't the only one. Fishing continues to be pretty good, and that anglers have landed more hatchery fish this year than ever before.

Many of the summer runs are getting pretty mature by now, but they are plenty good for the smoker, said Stroup. I have been watching more and more fish show up in the big hole below the Tumwater Bridge, so they aren't done coming through.

Stroup also mentioned that you can see both summer runs and lots and lots of steelhead from the waling bridge over the mouth of the Wenatchee. Steelhead, like other fish returning to the Columbia, are showing up late this year. Steelhead season is still at least a couple of weeks away. It's hard waiting but it will be worth it!
