MOSES LAKE - No one was injured in a Friday morning fire that nevertheless destroyed a family home at the intersection of Harris and Alma roads near Moses Lake.

The fire was reported at about 8 a.m., said Dan Smith, chief of Grant County Fire District No. 5. The residence, a single-wide mobile home, was partially engulfed when firefighters arrived, Smith said. "It's pretty much a total loss," he said.

The fire crew quickly knocked down the flames and saved part of the structure, Smith said. "We got a pretty good hit on that one," Smith said. "The crew did a great job on it," he said, an assessment echoed by the property owner, Delbert Tebow. "They did a good job of getting it out," Tebow said.

"I think they had just left for work," Tebow said of the family who lived in the house. The Lonnie Tebow family, two adults and two children, is now without a home, Delbert said. "We did not see much left," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Smith said. The fire marshal was on the scene late Friday morning. "What caused it yet, he (the fire marshal) was going to dig through and see," Smith said.

Officials from the fire marshal's office were not available for comment Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were on the scene about two and one-half hours. Two engines, four tenders, one support vehicle, two command vehicles and 15 firefighters responded to the call.
