A lawsuit has been filed against Kootenai County, Citylink Transit and a bus driver because a woman said she was dragged behind a bus.

Allison R. Cavilee, of Post Falls, filed the complaint and demand for jury trial through her attorney R.D. Watson of Coeur d'Alene in 1st District Court on Friday.

A legal representative for the county couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Watson was out of the office Tuesday and unavailable for comment.

According to the court documents, Cavilee was a passenger on a Citylink bus on Sept. 22, 2011, when the incident allegedly occurred.

Citylink provides free public bus service in Kootenai and Benewah counties.

Cavilee had placed her bicycle on the bicycle rack at the rear of the bus when she boarded at 15th Street and Sherman Avenue, the documents said.

After exiting the bus, Cavilee began removing her bicycle from the rack, but contends the bus driver pulled away too soon, the suit said.

With the bus driving off, Cavilee said she then was dragged for 15 feet, sustaining injuries to her back, neck and one of her arms. Her bicycle also was damaged.

The lawsuit alleges the driver "failed to exercise due care" during the incident. The lawsuit said Cavilee suffered damages in excess of $20,000. Cavilee also is seeking attorney's fees.

The case has been assigned to Judge John Mitchell.
