MarDon Resort regulars are reporting quality perch from the Lind Coulee, Goose Island, the mouth of Crab Creek, Medicare Beach and the Walleye Humps off the face of the sand dunes. Fishers are reporting 17"-22" as the best depth for quality perch from 8 inches and larger.

Rainbow Trout are also being reported from all over Potholes Reservoir. The east end of O'Sullivan Dam near the Potholes Canal outlet continues to provide the best trout action using #3 needlefish or rapala shad raps in size7,8 and 9. Troll shad raps with zero weight 85' behind the boat at 1.5 MPH. Also troll a needlefish 125' feet behind the boat with 2 or 3 ounces of lead or use 6 color of lead core trolling line at 2.5 MPH.

Bass action continues using surface lures on the face of O'Sullivan Dam. Rebel pop r's have been producing top notch memories with many 30 fish outings. With our water level on Potholes low the sand dunes have limited access. Remember always use extreme caution when boating in the sand dune area.

MarDon Fishing Dock

Now is the time to take a kid fishing at the MarDon Fishing Dock, crappie fishing has been great with our recent cooling and shorter days. Some bass and a few trout are showing also.

Sandhill Cranes

Sandhill Cranes return to the Potholes Recreation Area. One distinct sign of our season change is seeing vast number of these majestic migratory birds all over the Potholes Area. Fishing the dunes on 9-23-12 we sighted hundreds of Sandhill Cranes resting on sand bars in shallow moving water.
