NIC SOCCER: Ex-Bulldog Engel scores game-winner for Cardinals

COEUR d'ALENE - Anna Valentine dribbled from the right side to the center of the field and passed off to former Sandpoint High standout Ellie Engel, who slipped the ball past the goalkeeper late in the second half as the North Idaho College Cardinals women's soccer team defeated the Gonzaga club team 1-0 on Saturday.
"We had excellent play in back from Alaina Webb and Kacy Johnson, who helped stop several attacks by Gonzaga forwards," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "Kellsi Parson and Callie Martin did an excellent job distributing the ball to the forwards throughout the game from midfield."
Hannah Slinkard, formerly of Post Falls High, had four saves for NIC (6-3-1), which travels to play the Seattle University club team on Saturday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Logan Tooley scored two goals in the second half, including a tying penalty kick in the 56th minute as the Cardinals played to a draw against the Vandal club team at Bill Eisenwinter Field.
"We didn't play well enough to win," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "We had some chances to win and Tanner (Jones) had some chances to make some saves. They had a very professional approach and had some good, fast players."
NIC (4-5-2) hosts the Gonzaga club team on Friday.
