PREP VOLLEYBALL: St. Maries wins twice, takes CIL lead

ST. MARIES - Lakin Anxo had 15 kills and Mariah Gladden had 12 kills and two blocks for the Lumberjacks in a 22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-18 Central Idaho League win against the Grangeville Bulldogs.
Kathy Epler had 44 assists, Kristina Halverson seven digs for St. Maries against Grangeville.
Later, Epler had 20 assists and Maddy McQueen 10 digs for the Lumberjacks in a 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 win over the Orofino Maniacs. The wins put St. Maries in first place in the Central Idaho League.
"I felt like we made some big improvements," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "We had been struggling in a few things and we pulled it together today. We're starting to get more consistent with our passing, and when we get a good pass, we're able to put it down."
Gladden had 15 kills, Anxo seven kills and Kerstin Auer two aces for St. Maries (9-9, 3-0 CIL), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.
"I feel like we're starting to peak at the right time and I was pleased with our performance today," Asbury said.
Cd'A Charter falls twice in CIL play
ST. MARIES - Emma Henderson had five kills, Lexi Young five assists and five digs for the Panthers in a 25-10, 25-15, 25-10 Central Idaho League loss to Orofino in a CIL tri-match at St. Maries High.
Later, Young had 14 assists, seven kills and 12 aces as the Panthers fell to Grangville 22-25, 25-13, 7-25, 25-16, 15-9.
"It was a good tri-match," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Krista Brand said. "Overall, we're just coming together as a team."
Stephanie Kociela had four digs, Henderson four digs and Anna Verhaeghe three blocks for Coeur d'Alene Charter (2-9, 0-3), which hosts Kootenai on Tuesday.
Glacier d. Lake City
KALISPELL, Mont. - Madi Farrell had seven kills and five blocks for the Timberwolves in a 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 nonleague loss to the Wolfpack.
Brittany Gay had 17 assists, Kylie Curtis 12 kills and Kasey Widmyer six digs for Lake City (12-3), which hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday.
Cassie Hashley had eight kills and six blocks, Hannah Liss 19 assists and five aces and Kailee Vaudt nine digs for Glacier (10-4).
Post Falls splits in tri-match
POST FALLS - Savannah Hill had 10 kills and three blocks and Sydney Wiggins nine kills for the Trojans in a 25-13, 25-13, 25-16 win over Lakeland in a nonleague match at The Arena.
Brenna Meehan had 23 assists, Amy Booth four aces and Brooke Litalien nine digs for Post Falls.
"We got to run a lot of offense," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We really had our options of moving the ball around to different hitters, which I think was a good thing for us."
Kaidan Kelsey had four kills in the match for Lakeland.
Later, Meehan had 29 assists and 12 digs for the Trojans in a 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 26-24 loss to Mt. Spokane.
Wiggins had nine kills, Danielle Failor four blocks, Hill five aces and Litalien 13 digs for Post Falls (11-13), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
Mt. Spokane also defeated Lakeland 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16.
Kaiden Kelsey had six kills and two blocks, Kelly Rasmus four kills and two blocks and Kendra Rebal four aces for Lakeland (2-15), which travels to Moscow on Tuesday.
