MATTAWA - After a pageant-like presentation by five talented and spirited contestants, Ruby Coulson was selected Mattawa's distinguished young woman for 2013 Saturday night at Mattawa High School.

"The event went very well," first-year director Sharee Zirker said. "We only had a few hiccups."

"There are too many people to thank, but I appreciate everyone who was willing to make this scholarship program a success," Zirker added. "We are already excited about next year."

In addition to the title, Coulson won the judges interview, fitness, talent and self-expression categories. Ramirez won for scholastic achievement.

Contestant Sujeily Ruiz was victorious in two categories. She won be your best self and spirit of DYW.

The girls received scholarship money for each victory, including DYW and First Finalist.

Colson and Ramirez will represent the community in festivals, fairs and other community events throughout the year. They will be accompanied by contestants Sujeily Ruiz, Delia Tlatenchi and Lupita Guerrero, who will complete the community's Royal Court.
