EUREKA — Eureka opened its track season with a bang, as both the boys and girls won the Eureka Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Lions got big performances from a handful of athletes who each won multiple events. Alex Bartmess won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and ran the second leg of the 1,600 relay, while Jenna Komac ran on both winning relays and won the 400 by more than 15 seconds. Emily Billow won the shot put and the discus and Stevi Johnson won the 100 hurdles and led off the 400 relay.

While Eureka’s boys won the team score, Troy’s Sean Opland and Zach Dolezal nearly stole the show, combining for six event wins. Opland won the 100-meter dash, javelin and long jump, while Dolezal won both the 200 and the discus, and finished second to his teammate in the 100. Both were on the 400 relay team that edged Eureka for the win.
