MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake businessman R.J. McFadden remembers spending a lot of time at the former Skyline Miniature Golf Course while growing up.

"My mom would bring me and my sister here when we were kids," he said. "It has a lot of sentimental value."

McFadden said he knows other Basin residents have similar childhood memories. So when McFadden learned the owners were thinking about closing the Moses Lake landmark, he said he knew he had to step in.

"This place has been here for about 50 or 60 years," said McFadden. "I didn't want to see it close."

McFadden took over the business earlier this year and spent the last couple of months renovating and repairing the 19-hole course. McFadden will run the business with girlfriend Kristal Beamish, who also put in a few rounds of mini golf at the course growing up.

McFadden said running the mini golf course together seemed like a natural fit for the couple.

"We had one of our first dates here, many years ago," he said. "So that's pretty neat too."

McFadden said he is putting the final touches on the course, and residents can start playing this weekend.

Grand opening events will take place this Saturday, he said. The course will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and patrons can take advantage of $2 rounds of golf all day, said McFadden.

There will also be a barbecue for guests on Saturday, he said.

McFadden said starting April 6, the course will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Customers can also get a dollar off admission throughout the year if they bring a canned food item.

The donated food will go to the Moses Lake Food Bank, he said. Customers can also hold birthday and company parties and other events at the course, said McFadden.

By opening the mini golf course again, he said he hopes to provide the Moses Lake community with something fun and affordable to do.

The Moses Lake Miniature Golf Course is located at 4337 Airway Dr. in Moses Lake.
