Whitworth coach to speak at NIC booster luncheon

COEUR d'ALENE - Sean Bushey, who just completed his 16th season as head coach of the Whitworth University men's soccer team, will be the main speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club's luncheon at noon Tuesday at the Outback Steakhouse.

Bushey has a 206-89-33 record after 17 seasons as the head men's soccer coach (196-83-32 in 16 years at Whitworth). He has led the Pirates to six Northwest Conference titles in the last eight years, and seven NWC titles overall.

In 2011 the Bucs shared their seventh NWC crown under Bushey.

Bushey has been named Northwest Conference Men's Coach of the Year four times (2001, 2004, 2007, and 2008). He was head coach of the USL Premier League Spokane Shadow for three seasons (1997-99). The Shadow won the Northwest Division regular season championship in 1997 and 1998 and played in the USL Premier League title match in 1999.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting. The cost of lunch is not covered.

Vandal athletics to host celebration weekend

MOSCOW - Vandal athletics will hold a celebration weekend April 19-20 on the University of Idaho campus.

The weekend begins with the annual Silver and Gold spring football game at the Kibbie Dome on Friday, April 19 at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge and club members will have access to the Litehouse Center.

The following day, Idaho will host the Paul Petrino Golf Tournament and Football 101.

The golf tournament tees off at 10 a.m. at the University of Idaho Golf Course. Fees for the tournament, which includes greens fees, a tee prize, lunch and the dinner/auction Saturday night are $150 per person. The social and silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. at the University Inn-Best Western with the dinner at 6:30. Dinner only is $25. To register, visit www.vandalscholarshipfund.com.

Football 101 is a way to learn the basics of the game from coach Petrino and his staff. Registration is from 1 to 2 p.m., with the clinic from 2 to 4 and a social hour from 4 to 5. The fee, which includes the clinic, a commemorative gift, drawings for Vandal prizes, beverages and hors d'oeuvres, is $25 for one person, or $40 for two. If you want to join the golfers at the evening banquet, the fee is $45 for one person or $80 for two. If you just want to watch, not participate in the on-field activities and attend the social hour, the fee is $20 per person.

NIC softball drops two in Moses Lake;

Timberlake baseball, softball rained out

In search of better weather, North Idaho College moved Saturday's softball games from Coeur d'Alene to Moses Lake, where the Cardinals were swept 9-4 and 7-4 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play by the College of Southern Nevada (22-22, 15-18 SWAC).

No other details were available.

NIC (15-25, 9-20) plays host to Snow in doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.

* Timberlake's scheduled baseball doubleheader at St. Maries was rained out on Saturday, as was Timberlake's softball games vs. Frenchtown and Libby. No makeup dates were announced.

* Also, Washington State's football team was scheduled for a scrimmage as part of its spring practice, but the Cougars opted to hold a regular practice instead.
