Lorraine (Libbie) Florence Meier died on April 1, 2013 at 1830 while attended with the greatest of care at Hospice of North Idaho. Libbie was born in Bronx, New York City, March 7, 1930 to Robert Littell and Sophia Prival Littell. Libbie was the beloved wife of Major Frederick Clarke Meier and mother of Cynthia Denise Meier Jones of Spokane, Wash. and Frederick (Rick) Dennis Meier of Bonney Lake, Wash.

Frederick and Libbie were married April 3, 1952, four months after he returned from the Korean War. They had met while attending Andrew Jackson High School in St. Albans Long Island, New York City.

Libbie is survived by her husband of 61 years, their son Frederick Dennis (Rick) Meier, their daughter Cynthia Denise Jones, daughter-in-law Leanna Rae Meier, grandchildren Kelsie Meier, Grayson Clarke Meier, Ashlie Grant, Aubrie Grant, all of Bonney Lake, Wash., Michelle Meier, Mackenzie Meier, Cameron Meier of Mukilteo, Wash., Christina Sanchez and Gabriel Sanchez of Spokane, Wash., her brother Richard Edger Littell and his wife Virginia Ann Littell, and niece Kerry Meier Draggers’ of Oviedo, Fla., daughter of Fred’s brother William (Tex) Meier, deceased.

Libbie learned her secretarial skills at business school in New York City, and was employed at Mutual of New York while Fred was serving in Vietnam and she and children were in Orlando Fla. Libbie volunteered as hostess for the "Visiting Queens" for the Lilac Parade for 10 years while living in Spokane. She was cashier for the Cd’A Humane Society for 10 years. Libbie was a member of the 'Knit Whit's' Society in Cd’A. Making blankets for several services was her "thing". Libbie and Fred enjoyed their fifth wheel trailer and other campers for nearly forty years of travel. The traveling "home" improved much from the 7-foot folding camper they started with in 1973. While here in Cd’A, among the most beautiful lakes in all the world, they no longer owned a boat....no reason.

Libbie suffered various severe cancers for over 22 years. She fought the cancers, as they came, with all she had. Her final fight was a reflection of her strength and courage. She was so thankful for the staff at Hayden Hospice for helping her fight the pain she had endured for so long.

Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. A memorial service will be held at St.Luke’s Church, on Fifth and Wallace in Coeur d Alene, ID at 11 AM, 4 May 2013. She will have a view of the gardens at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Government Way. Please visit Libbie’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
