The Plains High School softball team got off to a solid start on Tuesday against the Lady Hawks of Thompson Falls winning the season opener 15 to zero.

Junior catcher Alex Greene led the offensive assault with a home run in the third inning as the Trotters racked up 15 runs in 5 innings. Assistant Coach David Thompson was pleased with the first game’s outcome.

“We played well for our first game. The new girls have improved a lot. We play Troy next and I expect that to be a good contest. It should be a good game,” said Thompson.

Aspen Rude assisted in the victory, striking out 14 Lady Hawk hitters, allowing one hit, one walk and one hit batter.

The game against Troy was postponed due to inclement weather. The Trotters will next play at Eureka on April 12.

As for Thompson Falls, Head Coach Randy Pirker said Plains played well.

“The (Trotters) looked really good, they looked really sharp,” said Coach Pirker.

The Lady Hawks went on to face Ronan in a double header, ending both games behind.

“Ronan is a pretty powerful team,” said Coach Pirker adding the girls did a great job hitting the ball and pitching was on point.

“They stomped on us and didn’t slow down at all,” said Coach Pirker.

The ending scores of the game were 0 to 37 and 4 to 32.

The ladies then went on to play Deer Lodge on Saturday in another double header.

Coach Pirker said Deer Lodge is also a strong team.

“We had eight runs in the first game,” said Coach Pirker. “We strung some hits together and put the line up together. We did some bunting and moved people around the bases.”

Coach Priker said the offense is beginning to flow together while the defense is still being pieced together by the team.

“We’re trying to place people in different spots and that will continue through the season,” said Coach Pirker.

All of the Lady Hawks got to play in the second game against Deer Lodge, giving everyone a chance at bat.

The final score of the games were 8 to 22 and 2 to 18.

The Lady Hawks will travel to St. Ignatius to play Mission on Saturday at noon, which is also a very strong team.

“It should by interesting,” said Coach Pirker.
