PREP ROUNDUP: Shippy, JaeCie Wilson fuel Lake City sweep of Lewiston

LEWISTON - No. 1 and 2 hitters Vanessa Shippy and JaeCie Wilson set the table in both games, going a combined 11 for 15 with 12 runs scored as Lake City swept Lewiston 15-2 and 13-4 in 5A Inland Empire League softball Tuesday at Airport Park.
Shippy was 5 for 6 and scored eight runs, and Wilson was 6 for 9 with a pair of runs scored for Lake City (7-0, 2-0 5A IEL). Shippy drove in four runs in the opener, two on a sixth-inning single.
"Shippy and JaeCie each had an awesome day at the plate today," Lake City coach Laura Tolzmann said. "Dakota (Wilson) also had some key hits as well."
Dakota Wilson went 3 for 5 with three RBIs in two games for the Timberwolves.
In the second game, Lindsey Willmon went 4 for 5 with a two-run home run and five RBIs, and Casey Stangel was 3 for 4 with a three-run homer and five RBIs.
Stangel struck out 10 and allowed five hits in the opener. In the second game, she struck out seven and walked four.
Lake City travels to Lakeland on Thursday.

"Coeur d'Alene did what they had to do," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "We didn't play poorly, but just couldn't hit the ball today and Coeur d'Alene hit the ball well."

SANDPOINT - Kristin Klopatek tossed a two-hit gem, striking out 12 and leading the Hawks over Sandpoint in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both teams Tuesday at the Bulldogs' new field at Sandpoint High School.
Erin Ogden and Bekah Kastning each had an RBI in the second inning, providing the winning margin for the Hawks (5-3) in a pitcher's duel.
"She was hitting her spots and driving hard off the mound," said Hawks coach Colleen Bevacqua. "She was able to keep Sandpoint off balance."
Casey Bottomley struck out eight for Sandpoint (1-4).

MOSCOW - Kyle Kaufman shot a 4-over 76 to lead the Coeur d'Alene Vikings to a five-shot win in the Moscow Invitational on Tuesday at the University of Idaho Golf Course.
Emily Callahan shot an 82 for the Coeur d'Alene girls, who finished second.
"Both the boys and girls are competing for first and second at all tournaments," Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. "They're getting to where they need to be. The scores are decent, but can be better later in the season."
Kellogg senior Kaceelyn Pouttu shot a 78 to win girls medalist as the Wildcats won the team title.

LEWISTON - Payton Glover bounced back from a first set loss to beat Jennifer Nguyen 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match for the Timberwolves against the Bengals.
"She just persevered to win her match," Lake City girls coach Roger Keilig said.
In the No. 2 boys doubles match, the Lake City team of Peter Youngblood and Mitch Williams battled, but came up short in a 6-0, 7-6, 7-5 loss to Kody Boettger and Nathan Wagner.
"The kids fought hard," Lake City boys coach Tim Scott said. "But we just came up a little short."
Lake City travels to Post Falls on Thursday.
