COEUR d'ALENE - A Hayden Walmart employee has been fired and is facing multiple felony theft charges for allegedly taking cash and gift cards in a series of thefts from the store.

The alleged thefts occurred between early January and late March, according to an incident report completed by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and released Monday.

The employee was a "front-end zone supervisor" at the store at 550 W. Honeysuckle Ave.

In one instance she allegedly pocketed $2,000 from a cash-register bag, and in another incident she allegedly stole $423 on a fake cash refund of an iPad.

On two other occasions she allegedly stole gift cards loaded with $133 and $105. She reportedly used each card to buy groceries, once at the Hayden Walmart and once at a Post Falls Walmart with her daughter, the incident report said.

"(The employee) also used her Walmart discount card which shows the employee's transaction history," it said.

The employee allegedly admitted to stealing the gift cards, a store asset protection manager told the sheriff's office investigator.

Store managers used video surveillance to catch the employee in the act, the report said.

The sheriff's office redacted the employee's name from the report.
