CORVALLIS – The Polson track and field team had a strong showing last Saturday in Corvallis, and leading the way was the powerful Pirate Riley Sampson.  Sampson’s winning distance of 51-8.5 in the shot put placed Polson’s boys team fourth with 55.5 points.

Polson’s Tel Motichika finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.40 and fifth in the 1600-meters with 4:58.40. Motichika, along with fellow runner Sean Laimbeer and hurdler Will Davey, will be instrumental for Polson this season. The three are Polson’s best chance at finishing in the top five in running and hurdling events, and they will need to continue improving if Polson wants to stay competitive.

The Pirates had a sound showing in the 400 and 1600-meter relay, finishing third and fourth respectably.

On the girls’ side, Anna DiGiallonardo and Claudia Hewston led the charge for the Lady Pirates, who finished fifth at the meet with 37.5 points.

DiGiallonardo finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.37) and tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-8. Claudia Hewston stood out from the competition in the 800-meter run. Hewston’s time of 2:29.0 was more than four seconds faster than the second place finisher.
