A Kalispell man arrested following an investigation into a rash of burglaries has denied allegations he was behind at least one of the crimes.

Anthony Shull, 24, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Flathead District Court to felony charges of burglary and theft levied after Shull allegedly was found in possession of items stolen from Flathead Travel.

The South Main Street business was burglarized Feb. 23, with several gift cards, a laptop, cellphones, cash, and miscellaneous food items stolen. A court document states that activity on the laptop and gift cards began showing up the following day, and officers were able to track that usage.

Video footage of a suspect using the cards was obtained from Town Pump and McDonald’s, and the computer activity was tracked to a Motel 6 room, according to the court document,

Then, on March 20, an officer patrolling the areas of the most recent burglaries found Shull walking, allegedly wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the video.

Shull allegedly lied about his name initially, with his true identity being ascertained after an officer arrived who was familiar with him. He was arrested for obstructing an officer and on active warrants. During the arrest, a search of Shull allegedly turned up a Motel 6 room key.

After a search warrant was obtained for the room that Shull allegedly had rented on a long-term basis, officers reportedly found the laptop and other items stolen from Flathead Travel.

When detectives tried to interview Shull, he asked for an attorney.

If convicted of both charges, Shull faces up to 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $50,000 and any restitution. He is currently incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center, where his bond is set at $40,000.

Shull’s next hearing is set for June 12.
