High-speed chase ends in Hayden

COEUR d'ALENE - A suspected bank robber from Washington was arrested in Hayden Friday afternoon after leading law enforcement officers on a high speed chase that crossed the state line.
Brian Douglas Sheldon, 39, of Spokane Valley, was arrested around 3 p.m. after his car was spotted attempting to hide in a covered stall in an apartment complex on Shiloh Loop in Hayden.
He was charged with felony eluding, and a felon in possession of a firearm.
Coeur d'Alene Police officers assisted Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies in a pursuit that had entered Coeur d'Alene at U.S. 95 and Interstate 90. Deputies had attempted to stop the suspect believed to have committed a bank robbery that had occurred at 1:45 p.m. in Fairfield.
One deputy on scene told The Press speeds on the interstate hit close to 90 miles per hour, but slowed when the vehicle entered the city.
The chase went through downtown before heading north past Harrison Avenue. At times, the pursuit was terminated because of safety issues, Coeur d'Alene Police said in a press release.
Canfield Middle School, Hayden Meadows, Dalton Elementary, and Coeur d'Alene Bible Church were closed down briefly as the chase circled the school areas.
After detectives noticed Sheldon's parked car, they observed the suspect get out of the vehicle and start walking away. They ordered the suspect to the ground and took him into custody, the press release stated. The suspect reportedly had a handgun on him that he put on the ground after being ordered to do so, and also had a large amount of cash in his pocket.
