Black Sheep consolidates

This location is too good and the building too useful to stay vacant for long. And it isn't.

Black Sheep stores will combine their merchandise from separate locations into the former Wholesale Sports building about May 1. Vacated by the sale of the company, the Wholesale Sports building at Neider Avenue and Government Way is between CostCo and Safeway. At 47,000 square feet, it's considerably larger than the combination of the Black Sheep stores several blocks north.

In business 38 years in Coeur d'Alene, Black Sheep offers hunting, fishing, camping and marine gear, sporting goods, men's and women's clothing and outdoor and workwear and footwear.

Dave and Barb Knoll started the company, and son Brian will be manager of about 30 employees. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Americantiques moves to Dalton

Combining its antique inventory and estate sales business, Americantiques now has Estate Sales Center added to its name and has relocated from Fourth Street in downtown Cd'A to 6456 Government Way in Dalton Gardens. The 6,600-square-foot building formerly housed Rodda Point, which moved a few blocks north.

Americantiques offers antiques, modern, vintage, collectible and unique finds from people's houses, attics, basements, garages, shops and storage units.

Originally from New York, owner Larry Jones came to North Idaho from Washington 10 years ago and has been in the antique business about 30 years.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and later for special events. Phone 640-0708. Email estatesalescenter@live.com.

New Leaf Nursery opens in Hayden

What previously was Huckleberry Nursery is now New Leaf Nursery at 12655 Government Way at Lancaster Road, Hayden.

With five acres and three greenhouses, the company offers cold-hardy shade trees, flowering trees and shrubs, fruit trees, berries, perennials, annual bedding and veggies starts, a variety of roses, fresh-cut sod (when ordered ahead), bulk garden soils, and landscape materials.

New owners Frank and Desirea Thiers have many years experience in nursery and retail management experience and have been in North Idaho since 1976.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with hours expanding as the season warms. Phone 762-4825. A website is under construction.

Now for the list of Tidbits

- New businesses in Riverstone should lead this space next week with Studio Ten20 and possibly Bullman's Wood-Fired Pizza. We also hear a rumor of John L. Scott Real Estate coming there.

- A Chase Bank is planned for the WinCo property at Appleway and Ramsey Road.

- Now we hear Harbor Freight will be coming here in June.

- When cannibals ate a missionary, they got a taste of religion.

- Each king in playing cards represents a great king from history. Spades has King David, Hearts has Charlemagne, Clubs has Alexander the Great and Diamonds has Julius Caesar.

- Wines named for grape varieties such as "chardonnay" are not capitalized. Wines named for regions such as "Champagne" are capped. (I prefer "merlot," named from a French grape and a young blackbird.)
