THOMPSON FALLS – The town of Thompson Falls hosted their 11th annual Beautification Days, sprucing up the town and cleaning up different areas on April 11 through April 13.

Despite the cold weather, volunteers flooded the town - fixing, cleaning and pruning as they went along.

According to director Rita Lundgren the effort to beautify the town surpassed the expectation of the 140 to 150 volunteers expected.

“It was an absolutely fabulous event. The community participation was the best that it has ever been,” said Lundgren.

The primary purpose of Beautification Days is to help the elderly and disabled city residents in any yard needs they might have.

Penny Torgrimson, an event coordinator, said ten individuals were helped with their homes.

Lundgren said Kathy Conlin and Dixie Carmen’s efforts were triumphant, piling together new and previous volunteers to help the event become the most successful ever.

“We had a fabulous core group of leadership people that are very community minded and enthusiastic,” said Lundgren diving into a long list of other project coordinators.

Torgrimson agreed, adding more praise to the community and volunteers.

“I couldn’t say enough good things about the people who helped us,” said Torgrimson. “I couldn’t be more satisfied with the way (Thompson Falls) looks today.”

Along with assisting the elderly and disabled town residents with their yards, the volunteers beautified the rose garden, Fort Thompson Playground, Wild Goose Landing and cleaned trash off local streets.

“We live in an absolutely fabulous community where people are generous with their time and want to see our community thrive and flourish and look as beautifully as it possibly could be,” said Lundgren. “We just applaud them.”
