1928-2013
Dottie Rogers, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2013, at the conclusion of a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Tekoa, Wash., to Archie and Sylvia Atkinson.
Dottie grew up in the Palouse region of Eastern Washington and North Idaho. She graduated from Plummer High School in 1946. She met her husband, Donald E. (Don) Rogers in Lewiston while attending beauty school. The couple was married in Lewiston, June 29, 1947. Dottie and Don spent most of their married life in Coeur d’Alene.
For many years, Dottie was an active member of Coeur d’Alene Bible Church. Her love of writing cards and letters helped the church in its ministry to the congregation when members suffered from illnesses or loss. Dottie enjoyed hand crafting the cards she sent out to the congregation, friends and extended family. Dottie was principally a homemaker while her children were in school. She was well-appreciated by friends and family for wonderful chocolate chip cookies, apple dumplings and chocolate cherry cakes.
Dottie is survived by her three sons, Thomas S. Rogers of Sitka, Alaska, Brett A. Rogers of Spokane and Patrick J. Rogers of Hayden; as well as by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Don who passed in June 2002; by her sister, Carol Smith-Whitman in 2005 and her brother, William Atkinson in 1996.
A memorial service to celebrate Dottie’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Bell Tower Chapel, 3398 E. Jenalan Ave., Post Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dottie’s name to the Coeur d’Alene Homes, 624 W. Harrison, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.
